Mechanical Properties
The mechanical properties of a PM component are dependent upon the sintered density, alloying method and content, plus any heat treatment. Metal Powder Industries Federation STD 35 and the PM Global Database (www.pmdatabase.com) present the minimum and nominal mechanical properties of the various ferrous alloy materials. Because of the porosity inherent within a PM component, the mechanical properties of a PM component are usually lower than wrought steel equivalents.
